In the readings, the table of God’s Word is spread before the faithful, and the treasures of the Bible are opened to them. (GIRM 57)
Ministers of the Word lead in our community by proclaiming Scripture and the Prayers of the Faithful at each Mass. Hearing God's Living Word allows us to reflect and respond.
Anyone who has been Confirmed is welcome to inquire about becoming a Minister of the Word (sometimes also known as a Lector). Please speak to Father Luca or Father Mussie. Training and ongoing formation are provided. Schedules are created several times per year.
I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. (John 6:35)
Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist are Lay ministers, authorized by the Church, who distribute Holy Communion at weekday and weekend Masses, and bring Communion to those who are unable to attend Mass. Those who have been confirmed and are 16 years of age and older are welcome to inquire. Please speak to Father Luca or Father Mussie. Training and ongoing formation are provided. Rotating schedules are created several times per year for Masses.
Ministers of the Eucharist also assist with bringing the Lord to our brothers and sisters who are homebound or in care homes. If you are interested in carrying our Lord to those in need, or helping with Eucharistic celebrations at Conestoga Lodge Retirement Residence, please contact the parish.
St Joseph is blessed with a number of adult and youth altar servers who serve at weekend Masses, funerals, and other special occasions. This ministry is open to all who have received First Communion, and training is provided.
Our vibrant music ministry leads the congregation in singing during 11 am Sunday Masses and special Parish events. Practices are held in the church most Wednesdays at 7 pm. Our music ministry is always accepting new members and we are very blessed to have dedicated volunteers to lead us in this ministry of prayer. Please speak with any choir member if you are interested in lending your musical talent! No training or auditions are required, only a desire to "make a joyful noise to the Lord" (Ps 100).
The Parish Pastoral council is a small group of parishioners who offer consultation to the Pastor in all matters surrounding the pastoral life of a parish. It involves parishioners, leaders of parish groups, parish staff and the Pastor working together to fulfil our mission as a Catholic Christian community.
Names and photographs of PPC members can be found near the side entrance of the church. Please feel welcome to approach any of the members if you have suggestions or concerns that should be brought to the council's attention.
Elections are held for 'at large' members of the Parish Pastoral council every three years. If you are interested in learning more about this ministry, speak with Father Luca or our PPC Chair, Jeff.
Our Building Committee assess and address the needs of our physical church and rectory. Throughout the history of our parish they have lovingly maintained our property, often completing repairs and renovations with volunteers, or working in conjunction with outside companies and contractors.
The Society of St Vincent de Paul is a community of parishioners who work together to support individuals and families in our neighbourhood. With respect and confidentiality, they offer assistance through an emergency food voucher progam. This ministry is always in need of both volunteer and financial support.
If you, or someone you know is in need of food support, please leave a message on our St Vincent de Paul answering machine by calling 519-741-9944. Be sure to leave your name, address, phone number, and number of people in your household. Please speak slowly.
St Joseph volunteers visit Conestoga Lodge weekly to lead a Liturgy of the Word and bring Communion to the residents, and provide prayerful support. Mass is offered by our parish priests once per month.
